When I took over my current plot, it was an overgrown mess. That in itself wasn’t too difficult to deal with. The actual problem was what lay beneath. The previous tenant had used carpet in an attempt to suppress weeds. Except too much time had passed, and nature had taken over: a thick mass of weeds simply grew over the top, leaving me to excavate metre upon metre of carpet from beneath the jungle. I even unearthed an oven dish, a small archaeological find from a previous allotment era.

My previous allotment, before and afters. I ended up giving it up to take over my current half plot. I do miss having a bigger space, but I don't miss taking two trains to get to this site!
