Is it a nappy? Is it a cake?
It started as a joke ↓
October, our WhatsApp group chat somehow descended into conversation about a cat litter tray cake, pictures and all (we are an odd bunch). My friend, who had recently become a dad announced:
"I need a nappy cake"
So, naturally I set about creating an exact replica of a nappy. Days of experimentation and many failures later, with the help of my mum, we recreated every detail: gathered elastic edges, yellow stickie-tabs complete with a hand-embossed pattern and the tiny punched edging cut out by hand with a scalpel . I even dyed cornflour to dust the wafer paper to get exactly the right shade of blue.
A few weeks later we all met up for lunch. Come dessert time I unveiled my masterpiece.
Silence.
Not an impressed silence.
A confused one.
"Why is there a nappy on the cake?"
They all thought it was real. After the great lengths I went to to create this cake, there was just one problem: they had all forgotten he'd ever asked for a nappy cake.
Including him.
